Era solo Novembre quando ASUS ha cominciato la commercializzazione del Transformer Prime, e sembrava che dovesse rimanere il top di gamma assoluto di ASUS per lungo tempo – visto che ci si aspettava che eventuali altri tablet presentassero caratteristiche di livello inferiore. Eppure questo non è avvenuto, ed il Prime non è già più la sola proposta di ASUS con processore nVIDIA Tegra 3. Oltre al Transformer Pad Infinity di cui vi abbiamo parlato poco fa, infatti, ASUS ha utilizzato il Mobile World Congress per presentare anche il Transformer Pad 300 per completare la sua offerta.

Il nuovo tablet è lo stesso avvistato qualche giorno fa, e come da previsioni si tratta di una versione più economica del Prime. La scocca è infatti in plastica rigida disponibile in diverse colorazioni (blu, bianco e rosso), lo schermo è un “semplice” IPS e non il Super IPS+ da 600nit del Prime e dell’Infinity, così come lo spazio di archiviazione interno parte dal limite inferiore dei 16GB (espandibili tramite microSD) e non dai 32 del Prime. Il downgrade delle caratteristiche termina però qui. Tutto il resto che è possibile leggere sulla scheda tecnica del Prime è direttamente trasportabile sulla scheda tecnica del Transformer 300.

Come il “fratello maggiore”, il Transformer 300 sarà in grado di sostenere 10 ore di utilizzo per singola carica di batteria (aumentate a 15 ore con la dock con tastiera), mentre contrariamente al Prime sarà disponibile immediatamente con Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Non ci sono ancora notizie circa date di commercializzazione e prezzi, ma ci aspettiamo un posizionamento su una fascia più bassa di mercato – presumibilmente intorno ai 300€.
