Ne avevamo già sentito parlare a Febbraio, ma nulla di certo si sapeva – soprattutto riguardo alle tempistiche ed alle modalità. Oggi, tuttavia, apprendiamo che Sony e HTC hanno annunciato ufficialmente nella cornice dell’E3, Electronic Entertainment Expo, che Sony aprirà la sua piattaforma PlayStation Mobile – precedentemente nota come PlayStation Suite – anche ad altri produttori partendo proprio da HTC. Ciò significa che i dispositivi HTC che riceveranno la certificazione saranno in grado di far girare i giochi PlayStation disponibili e avranno accesso ad altre applicazioni sviluppate con il SDK messo a disposizione da Sony.
Un ottimo affare per HTC, che già ora può fregiarsi di avere uno smartphone decisamente incline al gaming – il superphone One X – grazie soprattutto alla presenza del processore Tegra 3 e del software a corredo. L’aggiunta di nuovi titoli e della certificazione PlayStation accrescerà le doti di questo già notevole smartphone rendendolo una macchina da gioco cui mancano solo i tasti dedicati – à la Xperia Play. il vantaggio rispetto a Motorola, LG e Samsung è evidente e porta ancora di più coloro i quali guardano al gaming mobile con interesse verso HTC. Inizialmente sarà l’intera serie One a ricevere la certificazione, ma non si sa nè se altri smartphone riceveranno tale certificazione nè quanto impiegheranno a riceverla nel caso in cui Sony certificasse dispositivi più vecchi.
Anche per Sony si tratta di un buon affare: la compagnia può continuare a mungere la vacca (ancora grassa, a quanto pare) dei vecchi giochi per PlayStation guadagnando fondamentalmente senza sforzo. Inoltre, l’aggiunta di nuovi produttori aumenterà l’attenzione degli sviluppatori verso la piattaforma, visto che avranno più dispositivi su cui poter far girare le proprie applicazioni e, quindi, una quantità di utenti decisamente più grande (e profittevole, ovviamente). Questa potrebbe anche essere la buona occasione per Sony per riprendersi un po’, dopo i recenti licenziamenti e le scarse vendite della PS Vita – che è stato un flop clamoroso nonostante le premesse più che ottime. Non sappiamo chi sia il vincitore tra le due compagnie, ma di certo hanno vinto i possessori di un HTC One.

In conjunction with this development, SCE will rename PlayStation Suite to PlayStation®Mobile, and position it as a new platform.
