Se già altri marchi in passato avevano presentato prodotti Desktop dotati di sistema operativo ChromeOS, Acer è la prima a proporre una soluzione fissa ma dotata, stavolta, anche di monitor touchscreen. In realtà ChromeOS, ideato da Google proprio come Android, viaggia con quest’ultimo quasi di pari passo e questa peculiarità introdotta da Acer rappresenta sicuramente un punto a suo vantaggio. Quindi se all’inizio era installato solo in alcuni Chromebook, è stata poi LG ad introdurlo nel corso del CES 2014 nel primo PC Desktop all-in-one, mentre ora è Acer a prendere in mano le redini della situazione.

La nuova Chromebase ideata dall’azienda taiwanese è innovativa in particolare su una cosa: è dotata per l’appunto di schermo touchscreen. Questa novità farà certamente piacere a molti, dal momento che il sistema operativo è stato comunque fin dall’inizio piuttosto “touch-friendly”, un po’ come l’ultimo sistema operativo di Microsoft, che ha ricevuto a suo tempo tante critiche proprio per questa scarsa adattabilità ai PC fissi, non dotati di schermi touchscreen.

Oltre a questa caratteristica fondamentale, la Chromebase di Acer sarà racchiusa in un PC Desktop dotato di un display da 21,5 pollici con risoluzione Full HD e monterà un SoC Tegra K1 Quad Core progettato da NVIDIA. Il PC sarà dotato di entrambi gli ingressi USB 2.0 e 3.0, mentre non mancheranno un ingresso HDMI per la condivisione dello schermo ed una webcam in grado di registrare video in alta definizione.
